This book shows that from an economic point of view with strong credentials in terms of epistemic justice, allocative efficiency is about the maximisation of consumer welfare rather than total welfare. But that is only the first part of the argument. This book also shows that the legal structures most closely connected with the allocation of resources in a market economy (antitrust and consumer law) are designed and practised in a way that fits with the goal of maximising consumer welfare.
