Starting from 16 September, Professor Dan Banik will be a visiting professor at the Department of Law of the University of Pisa.
Professor Banik is a distinguished professor of Political Science at the University of Oslo, where he also serves as Director of the Oslo SDG Initiative at the Centre for Development and the Environment. He is also Academic Director of the Democracy Hub at Circle U. and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria.
During his visit, Professor Banik will take part in a range of academic activities, including the workshop “Constitutional Courts and Electoral Integrity: Navigating Challenges, Shaping Prospects”, scheduled for 24 September. The workshop, organized by the Jean Monnet Module on Promoting and Strengthening European Values (ProStEUVa) as part of the PhD program in Theory of Fundamental Rights, Constitutional Justice, Comparative Law, and Law and Religion, will bring together senior and junior scholars to discuss the challenges and prospects of constitutional adjudication and electoral governance. At the workshop, Professor Banik will deliver a talk titled “Courts as Democracy’s Referees: Unpacking Malawi’s Constitutional Judgment on the Polls and its Ripple Effects Across the African Continent”.
The Department looks forward to this visit as an opportunity to consolidate its partnership with Circle U. and support international collaboration and scholarly exchange through the Democracy Hub.
